“Para mí personalmente, ‘Woman Unknown’ trata sobre el cuerpo femenino como un campo de batalla”, expresó El-Toukhy. “Al mismo tiempo, la película cuenta la historia de mujeres que no son vistas, invisibles y sin voz”.
Agradeció a Gyllenhaal por usar su voz para arrojar luz sobre las oportunidades desiguales para las mujeres en la realización cinematográfica.
“Woman Unkonwn” se enfoca en una joven niñera y empleada doméstica que está a punto de casarse con su adinerado empleador en el período inmediato posterior a la guerra. Pero oculta una relación íntima secreta del pasado con un soldado alemán que amenaza con trastocar su reputación.
